๐Ÿ†• KPI Chart to Replace Single Value Visualization/Chart

Hi Sigma Users,

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you all. Our team at Sigma has been hard at work developing a powerful enhancement to our visualization capabilities. We are proud to announce that the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Chart has reached general availability (GA), after several months of Beta testing. Alongside this, we would like to update you on our deprecation plan for the Single Value Visualization/Chart (SVV). Starting on August 21st, users will no longer be able to create new Single Value Charts and should utilize the new KPI Chart instead. Existing Single Value Charts will not be automatically altered.

Why the Move to KPI Chart?

You might be wondering why weโ€™re making this change. The answer is simple: the KPI Chart is a new and improved way of presenting essential metrics in your workbooks. It retains all the capabilities you loved in the SVV while incorporating numerous feature requests and bug fixes, making it more balanced and attractive. We aim to offer you an enhanced experience that caters to your evolving data visualization needs.

What Does the KPI Chart Offer?

The KPI Chart brings several enhancements that will make your data analysis journey smoother and more impactful:

  1. Initial Bold Look: The KPI Chart immediately grabs your attention with a bold and compelling appearance, making it easier to focus on critical insights.
  2. Enhanced Readability: Improved padding ensures better readability, allowing you to absorb the presented information quickly.
  3. Responsive Design: The KPI Chart adapts dynamically to fit various card sizes, maintaining a clean and visually appealing display.
  4. Improved Layout: Weโ€™ve fine-tuned the arrangement of numbers and text to provide a more visually pleasing presentation.
  5. Exciting New Features: The KPI Chart introduces trendline charts (line and area) and convenient period-over-period comparison shortcuts, empowering you to gain deeper insights into your data.

Addressing Some Less Common Functionalities

While we are thrilled about the transition to the KPI Chart, we want to address some less common functionalities that existed in the SVV but do not in the KPI Chart. Specifically, functionalities like the tooltip on the value and applying conditional formatting rules to the background color/fill color were not incorporated into the KPI Chart. The tooltip is now shown only on the trendline of the KPI chart and conditional formatting applies to the Valueโ€™s font color rather than the background color of the element.

As we move forward, we are dedicated to continuously improving the KPI Chart and adding new features that will cater to the diverse needs of our users. Please submit your product request to the Sigma Community, and we will evaluate your submission.

What About Existing SVVs?

We understand that you might already have some valuable SVVs in your workbooks. No worries! We wonโ€™t be automatically converting your existing SVVs to KPI charts. Instead, we encourage you to manually upgrade your SVVs to KPI charts. This way, you can fully embrace the latest features and improvements and elevate your data visualizations.
