"Use" value for List Control

  • Describe Feature
Currently the list control actually does support a “display” value for the users to see, and a “use” value for filtering, but ONLY when it is a MANUAL list. As soon as the list comes from a data source this separation goes away.

  • What is the use case?
For consistency we have datasets built from our main transaction system’s setup tables. All values are a code/description combination. You always filter by the code in queries because the descriptions often get changed. However, the code is not intuitive. it’s typically just a number. We would like the list control to support displaying the description but use the code as a filter or parameter. (again this is exactly what the manual list already does, so the technology exists!)

  • How often would this feature be used?
Everyday. Many times a day. This is really a need to have to do a broader organizational rollout.

  • What is the impact of this feature on your organization?
While there is a convoluted work-around to this issue, it is much more technical in nature meaning we’d quickly reduce our count of users because we couldn’t ask them to do the work-around and expect any consistency.

This is an existing feature request. I’ll add your details to the ticket!
